Psychologically and physiologically over 10% of men and women experience elevated perceived stress around Mondays. Potentially that stress is focused around the impression that there are an endless number of tasks to be accomplished early in the week. Perhaps through sociological conditioning women are statistically more likely to seek help, mental health counseling and “share” their feelings for support from others to lower their anxiety and find solutions when compared to the number of men who prefer to compartmentalize and ignore stressors if at all possible according to a UCLA Survey. How can all people both men and women turn the impending doom of the “Monday Blues” into feeling more like it's just another day or even an opportunity to look forward to? Here's a list of some success strategies for transforming impending dread to normalcy. 1. Reframe your perception of Mondays with weekly “Monday success and balance resolutions.” Instead of viewing Mondays as a single day of significance to you it is more effective to view Mondays as an opportunity to recommit strategy. Utilize the natural momentum of the weekly Monday through Friday work cycle to benefit your strategies, practices and routines. Adapt this practice to whatever work cycle you may be on. 2. Maximize the opportunity of Mondays by setting realistic goals and writing them down in your planner, tablet or smartphone. 3. Organize each goal into small manageable steps or tasks and write them down in your planner, tablet or smartphone. 4. Optimize the routine of Mondays to make a weekly plan and write it down in your planner, tablet or smartphone for reference and personal accountability. Remember to schedule “Power Breaks” 5. Consider sharing your goals with trusted persons for support. 6. Practice using some time Sundays and Mondays as an opportunity to recommit strategies that take advantage of the weekly work cycle momentum. The practice of recommitting tends to have a higher efficacy and outcome then perceiving a singular resolution such as New Year's. Among other things to recommit schedule your “Power Break” routines. Write it down in your planner, calendar or smartphone. 7. H.A.L.T. if you find yourself feeling hungry angry lonely or tired take a “Power Break.” 8. Serenity Exercise Love Food help maintain physical and mental health. Take care of your S.E.L.F. For example; Serenity relaxation meditation and guided imagery are relaxing. Exercise such as walks, yoga and the mild exercise of your choice can reduce stress hormones such as cortisol. Love expressed as gratitude for things and people that you value makes you smile. For example saying thank you garden for nourishing me, you my friend are great etc can benefit you by relaxing your mind. Food is a key part of the biological process that gives you optimal performance physically, mentally and emotionally. Sweet potato, rice, bananas, salmon and turkey are some of the foods rich in vitamin B6 that promote relaxation. I myself am vegan and truly love bananas and rice. Other foods such as dairy products like yogurt and milk are also reported to calm the mind. I wonder how soy ice cream fits into that equation? lol Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences with me. I love it.
